Motion sickness occurs when the inner ear, eyes, and other parts of the body that identify motion send conflicting signals to the brain. A part of the system that experiences your balance (inner ear, vision and sensory nerves that maintain your balance), experiences that your body is moving, while other parts are unable to perceive motion. For example, if you are in the cabin of a ship moving, your inner ear will experience the movement of big waves but your eyes will not be able to experience any movement. There is a conflict between these senses which results in motion sickness.
The most common medications that prevent vomiting are calming CTZ located in the central nervous system, which is believed to be responsible for causing vomiting. Among the anti-allergic drugs, meclizine and dementhydrinate and anticholinergic drugs such as scopolamine act on the labyrinth (inner ear) route and are useful for relieving motion sickness and inner ear disorders.
